Frequently Asked Questions

Why should we pay to walk?

KTT operates as a not-for-profit organization operated by volunteers and has expenses required to maintain the organization. Some expenses include the website, RideGPS, insurance, and banking fees.

What is the cost to join?

Currently, the annual membership fees are $15 for an individual and $20 for a family. A fee of $1 per walk is collected at each walk, or you can buy a Walk Card for $10.

What social events happen?

A social event happens after each walk. There are also non-walking social events planned throughout the year. Past activities have included trolley tours, games and potluck afternoons, and theatre shows.

How far do you walk? What is the pace?

At a minimum, most walks are about 7,500 steps or 1¼ hours. Our pace reflects the group. Walk leaders monitor how everyone is doing and provide stopping points along the route so everyone stays together.

When do you walk? How often?

Currently, the group walks twice a week, with days and times varying by season.

Where do you walk?

Urban areas within Kingston, Gananoque, and Brockville. You can also find national and international walking clubs and volkssporting groups.

Walking Programs

Special programs are a very important part of Volkssport and the King’s Town Trekkers Walking Club. KTT has linked with our national walking club, Canadian Volkssport Federation (CVF), to bring fun and motivating ways to encourage participation in walking.

CVF has a number of Special Walking Programs which encourage members to explore some of the scenic wonders of Canada. Participants receive certificates and mention in Volkssport Canada to recognize their achievements. Individuals interested in participating in these special programs can purchase the books online. More information is available through the KTT Trail Master.
